WHITBY- On November 14th, Celina hosted an arts and culture town hall to discuss the future of the arts sector in Canada. Many residents of the Whitby community came out to share their ideas on how to promote Canadian and local content, and ensure its success into the future.
Some points from the discussion included:
- The need to promote business for the arts. There are many talented artists, but they don’t know how to promote themselves. Need to try to think about how we can use art spaces in Whitby to support and promote their craft.
- The need to look at why Canadian art matters, but also why does art matter in general? Why is it considered not as important as it once was?
- As we move into a digital era ,we need to not use social media as a megaphone, but use it in ways to do things we could not do without it. Make social media a tool for artists.
A big thank you to the Station Gallery for hosting the event in such a beautiful space.
