On October 13th I was proud to announce the joint investment between the Federal and Provincial government to the University of Ontario Institute of Technology.
This joint federal-provincial investment was announced today by myself, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, and by Granville Anderson, Member of Provincial Parliament for Durham.
The new $33.5 million dollar Software and Informatics Research Centre is being built just North of Conlin Road. Of the $33.5 million dollar investment, $11.8 million will come from the Federal Government, along with $1.2 million from the Government of Ontario. The remaining $20.5 million will be contributed by the university. The new SIRC Centre will act as a hub for research in health and business analytics, IT security, networking, gaming, and software engineering, while promoting interdisciplinary and experiential learning.
The investment is part of the Federal Government’s Post-Secondary Institutions Strategic Investment Fund, which will enhance and modernize research facilities on Canadian campuses and improve the environmental sustainability of these facilities.
